Latin originally developed as an oral language, so I'm not sure what it would mean that -que started as a separate word as opposed to a suffix. However, drawing attention to the Roman definition of a word (or lack thereof!) is a good point to make. The effect of enclitics on stress was mentioned in an older question if you are interested. | |
